WARNED!!![EDIT] Yeah, so I feel I need to clarify a little bit. I'm not saying the movie wasn't exciting. The bridge being attacked, Dumbledore's BOSS-like fire, and the comedy was really quite good. It just seemed like they focused on making us laugh in order to divert us from seeing how little of the book was actually represented. I wanted to see the funeral....I REALLY DID!!! The single most moving scene in the books so far was completely left out, as was the HarryXGinny and HermioneXRon character development. Please, go see it and make your own decisions. Most people think it was great, I just can't stand how many things they added to the movie that were completely unnecessary, when they left out much of what was important.
Yeah...so I know a bunch of you are probably gonna be pissed at me for what I'm about to type, but truthfully I felt I had to say something because I was so thoroughly taken aback by the movie I saw last night. Let me begin first by quoting the "differences" between the book and the film:
[SPOILER WARNING]
"There are a number of changes from the book in the film. Much of the book's ending has been changed, with the climactic battle and Dumbledore's funeral being removed. Heyman commented that the end battle was removed to '(avoid) repetition' with the forthcoming adaptation of Deathly Hallows. The funeral was removed as it was believed it did not fit with the rest of the film. The collapse of a Muggle bridge mentioned briefly in the book serves as the film's opening sequence. Scenes of Diagon Alley being demolished by Death Eaters and an attack on the Burrow, known as "The Burning of the Burrow" by Bellatrix Lestrange and werewolf Fenrir Greyback are added, as can be seen in the trailers. All but two of the memory scenes, including that of the Gaunts, have been cut. Only the flashbacks of Tom Riddle at the orphanage and Riddle asking Slughorn about Horcruxes, shown twice, remain. Yates said they made the decision to compress the memories, but still 'got some really cool ones'.
Characters who are cut include the Dursleys, Kreacher, Dobby, Bill and Fleur, Rufus Scrimgeour, Cornelius Fudge and the Muggle Prime Minister. However, Quidditch, being excluded from the previous film, returns. Bellatrix Lestrange also participates in the battle of the astronomy tower, whereas she did not in the book. This scene also shows Harry hiding on a floor underneath Dumbledore and his adversaries as he is acting on Dumbledore's wishes to stay put, whereas in the book, Dumbledoore forces Harry to hide by casting the body bind spell on him while he is under the invisibility cloak.
All of the scenes where the characters are learning to disapparate were cut.
In the book, on the Hogwarts Express, after he is paralyzed and hidden under his Invisibility Cloak by Draco Malfoy, Harry is rescued by Nymphadora Tonks. In the film, Luna Lovegood saves him instead, using her Spectrespecs to find him.
Cho Chang is cut out of the film entirely. Instead, the film focuses on Harry's growing feelings for Ginny, more so than in the books or previous films. The film includes a few Ginny and Harry scenes that were not in the novel, including one scene in which the two share a mince pie at Christmas. Also, they do not share their first kiss in a Quidditch match celebration (Ron and Lavender take this role instead). Instead, the two share a brief kiss when they are alone in the Room of Requirement while hiding Harry's Potions text book. The scene in which Harry breaks up with Ginny at the funeral was removed, along with a lot of the dialogue that followed the funeral in the book.
Also Harry does not hide the Potions book under the wig and tiara of Ravenclaw but instead Ginny hides it when Harry closes his eyes. This change from the book will also affect the Deathly Hallows since that was how he found the horcrux.
Also, in the film, there is no mention of the other Horcruxes besides the diary, the ring, and the locket. In the book, Dumbledore explains to Harry that he has reason to believe that the remaining Horcruxes are Voldemort's snake Nagini, Helga Hufflepuff's cup, and something of Gryffindor's or Ravenclaw's. This is a key issue in that it gives Harry an idea of what he's looking for. Unless it is addressed in the movies depicting the seventh novel, Harry will have no direction in his search for the Horcruxes."

Irritated yet? Well I sure was, and so were my friends after we left. We arrived to a PACKED theater, with the line streaming into the parking lot even after most of the seats were taken. There we waited for a movie which was supposed to start at 12:01. By 12:35 we were falling asleep in our seats when finally a "no calls or texting during the movie" ad flickered onto the screen. From then on the movie commenced until around 3:11 in the morning.
There were certainly some good things to the movie like the comedy, which I feel is becoming much more British in origin and that makes me feel good. No doubt the return of Quidditch kicked ass, but this couldn't save the movie. In Quidditch for example, Ron was "trying out" for Keeper, even though he had already been playing as Keeper since the last book. On top of that many crucial points of character and plot development were left out. Snape's entire monologue was cut to basically, "Yes, I am the Half-Blood Prince," Dumbledore never discusses the Horcruxes except to say "ZOMG he made some!" and the relationships that were so important to the book were only touched upon. Hermione seemed like a hormonal mess, Ron was tonguing with Lavender for no apparent reason, Ginny was portrayed like a slut that suddenly realized she's horny for Harry and Cho Chang wasn't even there.
The real final straw was the organization of events...my friend Cory hadn't read the book, but he expected to at least mostly understand the movie. When it was over he was so confused and appalled by the insane plot holes and add-ons that he sat grumbling at the screen for at least 5 minutes and then we had to calm him down by explaining what happened as best as we could. Overall, the acting felt forced except for Draco. Tom Felton did an amazing job conveying Draco's turmoil. I look forward to Deathly Hallows, as it will be two parts and hopefully not so horribly butchered as this was. I look forward to it, but this time I'm not getting my hopes up...
The tower fight and funeral not "FIT" with the rest of the film...wtf were they doing? Those were two of the most amazing and beloved scenes of the Harry Potter saga...
In all, please don't flame me. Feel free to say you liked it, but I'm not going to argue with anyone.
